The Day is Done

The day is done and so am I,
Twinkling stars now fill the sky.

Darkness surrounds me like a lover's embrace,
Closing my eyes off to sleep I race.

The concerns of the day now crowd my mind,
Tossing and turning til the body unwinds.

Hours pass as I fitfully sleep,
Waking once more, should I try counting sheep?

The night passes quickly as I check the clock,
Once I finally find sleep, I'm wakened in shock!

"What's that beeping in my ears?" I moan,
"Time to get up already?"comes a mumbled groan.

Still dark outside, the rooster crows,
Sky begins to lighten as daylight grows.

The heat of the sun once more brings the steam,
Humidity grows thicker until I want to scream.

Afternoon rains bring coolness once more,
Cool breezes flow gently from the ocean shore.

The day is done and so am I,
Twinkling stars now fill the sky....
